This past weekend, Tyson Fury told a U.K. journalist that he is broke, following being out of action for two years due to issues with his mental health and substance abuse.
Fury, who told the Daily Record Newspaper that he spent seemingly all of the £4million purse he earned when beat Wladimir Klitschko in 2015.
The 29-year-old said: “To be honest, I’m skint. I don’t have any money in the bank. I’m on the dole.
“I’m on Jobseeker’s Allowance at the moment. I’m not winding you up – I’m being truthful. Seriously, I didn’t make any money out of boxing at all. Don’t feel sorry for me – it’s not a bad thing.
Fury explained that he would give half of his winnings to his management team, and the other half to those in need. And when he was in Glasgow in 2016, he told the Daily Record that he made £10,000 and then “went up and down Glasgow giving it to the homeless.”
“What goes around comes around, I believe. A greedy man doesn’t enter the kingdom of heaven.”
A planned return to the ring in April, will now be held back until at least May, while Fury looks to get back into top shape.
